- Where is the best place you ever travelled?
There are a few places that have stood out as being totally amazing. 20 years ago I visited Patagonia and Ushuaia. I remember the freshness of smelling nothing when I got out of the plane at Ushuaia – I am not sure it has remained so pure. Patagonia has the most amazing wildlife and nature. 30 years ago I spent a week on the shore of Lake Bukittinggi in West Sumatra. We arrived in the early evening and were taken by rowing boat to the hut. The lake was covered in mist and upon arriving at the hut there was a local guitarist playing whilst we ate our meal. There was little to no tourism in those days. It felt very remote and ethereal.
- What are your sports?
I like individual sports – running, cycling, swimming, skiing – nothing involving strategic thought – beautifully repetitive actions which help me to switch off and fully concentrate on the world around me.
- What is your guilty pleasure?
A long lunch with a never-ending bowl of Moules-frites and a glass of white wine. Failing that, I am partial to a scone or three!
