BACKGROUND:

My journey into physiotherapy has been deeply rooted in my fascination with how movement transforms lives. From an early stage, I was drawn to the science of human recovery: how the body heals, adapts, and reclaims strength after injury. That passion led me to pursue a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Apollo College, India, followed by a Master’s in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Leeds Beckett University, UK.

Across my professional journey, I’ve worked in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and sports fields, treating individuals from all walks of life from post-operative patients to professional athletes. My experience spans orthopaedic, neurological, and sports rehabilitation, with hands-on exposure in both India and the UK.

As the Lead Physiotherapist for Selby Town Football Club and an Event Physiotherapist for TrailMed endurance events like the Lake District, Peak District and Cotswold Challenges, I’ve managed acute pitch-side injuries, implemented return-to-play protocols, and ensured athletes could perform at their best.

My clinical background at Apollo Hospital and Revive Rehabilitation Centre strengthened my expertise in neuro and post-surgical rehab, while my volunteering at Meanwood Health Centre (NHS) gave me valuable insight into community-based care within the UK healthcare system.

What drives me most is the privilege of helping people move without pain and regain the confidence they once lost. Every patient whether an athlete or someone recovering from surgery, reminds me that rehabilitation isn’t just about physical healing; it’s about restoring self-belief and quality of life.

I take pride in providing evidence-based, patient centred care that focuses on movement, empowerment, and long-term wellbeing because for me, physiotherapy isn’t just a profession; it’s a purpose.

Quick Fire Questions – Get to Know Damini!

1. Where is the best place you’ve ever travelled to and why?

I’ve been fortunate to explore multiple countries, but so far, Morocco must be one of my favourites especially Marrakech. The city felt like stepping into a painting the vibrant souks, the scent of spices in the air, the intricate architecture, and the warmth of the people made it an unforgettable experience. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left.

2. What made you choose to become a physiotherapist?

When I was younger, I suffered a shoulder injury while playing baseball competitively. What struck me most during recovery wasn’t just the treatment, but it was the impact my physiotherapist had on my confidence and mindset. That experience completely changed how I viewed healing, it wasn’t just about recovery, but about rediscovering strength and purpose. That moment became the turning point that inspired me to become a physiotherapist, so I could be that same source of support and motivation for others.

3. Favourite area of the body to treat and why?

The knee and lower limb I find it incredibly rewarding to work on injuries that affect mobility, especially when helping athletes and clients return to pain-free movement and sport.

4. What’s your favourite dish?

Being a mix of Indian and Ukrainian, food has always been a part of how I connect with both sides of my culture. From India, nothing beats a comforting plate of Dal Makhani with cheese naan, and from Ukraine, my grandmother’s mashed potatoes with chicken breast, creamy mushroom sauce, and salad will forever be my favourite home-cooked meal.

5. Do you play any sports?

Yes! I’ve played baseball at a national level for several years; it was a huge part of my life growing up. Over time, I transitioned into other forms of movement I love gym workouts, dance, and now football, especially after moving to the UK. Staying active helps me understand my patients better every ache, every muscle strain, every comeback. It keeps me grounded as both an athlete and a physiotherapist.
